Milburn Mountain Defence: The Demise of a Canadian Armour Company

MILBURN DISAPEARS?

At AraTech Research, we were surprised and saddened to learn of the sudden closure of Milburn Mountain Defence, a company that played a significant role in the Canadian body armor and tactical gear market. As one of our closest competitors, we recognize the contributions Milburn made to the industry and their impact on the lives of those who relied on their products for safety and protection.

Milburn Mountain Defence achieved a standard rare in Canada by attaining their NIJ Level III certification. While they did not offer NIJ Level IV certification, their products filled an important gap in the market for reliable ballistic protection. As fellow advocates of Canadian manufacturing, we respected their efforts to provide homegrown solutions in a competitive field.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The closure of Milburn Mountain Defence leaves a gap in the Canadian market, especially for those who value locally made and certified ballistic protection. But there are a few carry on impacts that most might not expect. Any plates that carry the Milburn Mountain NIJ rating are now in limbo. Will Grey Ghost Gear (who won the lawsuit that went on for 3 years) honor the product MMD made and support those plates? That leaves some big gaps for Canadian Consumers that bought Milburn Mountain Defense products and questions as to what to do next.

ARATECH SOLUTIONS

And we are of course pursuing NIJ 01010.07 certification for all our armour that qualifies as we grow and expand.

To those seeking reliable body armor and protection, we invite you to explore AraTech’s offerings. While Milburn’s chapter may have closed, we are here to provide the security, craftsmanship, and trust that Canadians deserve.
